No. 20 GameStop Toyota
California Race Report
● After a thrilling, late race pass, Joey Logano picked up his fifth NASCAR Nationwide victory of 2009 at the Auto Club Speedway on Saturday.
● The win gives Logano back-to-back victories in consecutive weeks for the first time in his career.
● Logano picked up his win from the pole position after posting a lap of 39.743, or 181.164 mph during the morning time trials.
● Logano looked to be in for a long day when he received contact from the No. 16 car. The contact resulted in heavy body damage to the No. 20 GameStop Toyota and an “aero-tight” condition.
● The GameStop Toyota crew slowly got the car back to Logano’s liking and he was able to make a pass for the lead on lap 146. He was able to hold off the No. 32 car as the race ended on a “green-white-checker” finish.
Joey Logano Quotes
“I tell you what, that was the coolest race of my life. The coolest with no doubt in my mind – that was awesome. Late in the race I told myself that I was going to try to salvage a top-10 out of it and all of a sudden I’m sitting third, then I took the lead and I thought, ‘I got a shot at this thing!’ I can’t believe it. It was cool that after we get put in the fence and it almost ruined our day, we were able to fight back at a track like this. That was really cool and aero means a lot. The GameStop Toyota was hurt a lot, but I think this was the best way to get back.”
“I can tell you that we never quit. We kept digging all day. I definitely didn’t think we had a shot at it. That was just amazing. This GameStop team is amazing. I have to thank the fans, GameStop and all the guys back at the shop that put this thing together. It’s an awesome race car and it’s fun to race. That was the most fun race I’ve ever had in my life. I went from hoping to get a top-10 finish to thinking that we can go to Charlotte and make it three-in-a-row. That’s how good this team is.”
