Petty Family Foundation Announces Inaugural Richard Petty Charity Golf Classic Presented By Window World

Greensboro
, N.C. (September 16, 2009) – During the 12th century, under the rule of a king, the modern game of golf was invented in Scotland. Today ‘The King’ of NASCAR announces that he will have his own golf tournament.

The Petty Family Foundation announces the inaugural Richard Petty Charity Golf Classic presented by Window World on October 13-14, 2009. The tournament will be played on the hallowed grounds of Sedgefield Country Club, a course located just a short drive from the Petty home of Randleman, N.C. The Donald Ross design has been a site of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship since 1938 and is a classic American golf course.

“Our plan is to grow the Richard Petty Charity Golf Classic into an event that people mark on their calendars each year,” said ‘The King’ Richard Petty. “With the list of partners that we have behind us, we have a great start toward making that happen. While I never had a chance to follow golf very closely due to my driving career, I have always known about Sedgefield. It is a first-class facility that will give us a solid foundation for an outstanding tournament.”

Window World is building on the success of their first partnership with Richard Petty in which they sponsored the Richard Petty Motorsports entry into the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 in May. Their charitable foundation, Window World Cares, share core values with the Petty Family Foundation, including supporting children in need and our veterans.

“Window World is proud to continue to build on the relationship established at the 2009 Indianapolis 500 with Richard Petty,” said Window World CEO Todd Whitworth. “The Window World Family, through Window World Cares, gives back to our local community and national partners like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Veterans Airlift Command.  We are proud to be affiliated with organizations that share our charitable values, like Richard Petty and the Petty Family Foundation.”

Long one of the most-philanthropic families in NASCAR, the Petty family is as well-known for its charitable works as it is its impressive racing statistics. They have spearheaded some of the largest and most-ambitious charitable projects in the sport, including the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The Richard Petty Charity Golf Classic presented by Window World will give the family another platform to continue the work that has benefited many in North Carolina and around the United States.

“Giving back to the community and fostering strong values in others has always been very important to the Petty family,” said PFF Executive Director Rebecca Petty Moffitt. “We hope that by establishing the Petty Family Foundation, the Petty family will be able to enrich the lives of people that will engage in acts of service and leadership in this community and within the ranks of our partners.”

In addition to Window World, other high-profile sponsors are supporting the event. CNL Financial, Wyndham Worldwide, Best Buy and Time Warner Cable will give this the feel of a major championship, while the Petty family will ensure that their personal touch resonates through each guest.
