Richard Petty’s “The King’s Cup” Charity Go-Kart Event Right Around The Corner
Second-Annual Event at Victory Lane Karting to Benefit Paralyzed Veterans of America
CHARLOTTE, NC (May 12, 2010) – It’s just around the corner. In just a few short weeks, a number of NASCAR’s current superstars, led by arguably NASCAR’s greatest driver ever, will embark on an endurance go-karting event like no other; with a cause like no other.
Led by ‘The King’ Richard Petty, the second-annual “King’s Cup - Karting for a Cause” presented by Harris Teeter will be held on Tuesday, May 25th at Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, NC. Once again, all proceeds from the event will go to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (“PVA”). Last year, the event raised nearly $60,000 for the Paralyzed Veterans, a number that the organizers hope to surpass in 2010.
“Last year, the motorsports community came together and raised $60,000 for the PVA and that was humbling to say the least,” said Richard Petty, a seven-time NASCAR champion and NASCAR’s all-time wins leader in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. “This year though, I think we are going to be able to do even better. We’ve got a great group of drivers that are planning to make it out to the event to both compete and to watch. We’ve also got a great bunch of sponsors like Harris Teeter, Best Buy and Sprint lined up that are in it to help us raise some money for this great cause.”
The King’s Cup is scheduled to take place on May 25th from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. In addition to appearances by Petty himself, NASCAR drivers Kasey Kahne, AJ Allmendinger, Paul Menard, Elliott Sadler, Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski are all planning to be in attendance and compete for “The King’s Cup.” Many other NASCAR superstars are expected as well and will be added as the date comes closer.
Busch’s team, sponsored by the Kurt Busch Foundation, won last year’s event by a mere 18 seconds over Denny Hamlin and his Denny Hamlin Foundation team. Up to 30 teams will compete in this year’s event, with the top 15 squads qualifying for the one-hour endurance feature race.
In addition to the go-kart event and driver appearances, the night will feature entertainment on the Best Buy Stage by the band Smokin, along with a silent auction that will include a ton of racing memorabilia.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization that works throughout the nation to empower America’s veterans with disabilities and their families with everything they need to live full, productive and independent lives.
“The King’s Cup is an exciting way to get the motorsports community involved in our cause, to have fun and to raise much-needed funds for America’s paralyzed veterans,” said Gene A. Crayton, national president of Paralyzed Veterans. “Richard Petty is a great champion for our members and their families and we deeply appreciate all that he and his family do for us.”
General admission tickets for the event, which cost just $25, are still available. A general admission ticket includes a grandstand seat for the karting events, one raffle ticket to win a private dinner with Richard Petty and complimentary cocktails & hors d’ oeuvres. All of the VIP tickets for the event have been sold out.
